Back To Karkand By Defender1970
There's about to be some great news for First Person Shooter fans and especially for fans of the Battlefield Series, in particular, Battlefield 2. Move over Call of Duty! It looks like there's about to be a new king of the FPS series.
Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the past 3 months, you already know that Battlefield 3 is on its way later this fall. You probably know that it is using the new Frostbite 2 game engine--essentially an improved engine from the Bad Company games. If you've watched the 12 minute long game play trailer, you probably had to pick your jaw off the floor more than once due to the absolutely stunning graphics. What you may not know yet is that these insanely stunning graphics are about to spruce up several of our all time favorite Battlefield 2 maps. Wake Island, Sharqui Peninsula, Gulf of Oman, and Strike at Karkand are all on the list for updates and improvements. Also slated will be new game play modes for these maps--already announced is the Rush mode from Bad Company 2.
Niklas Fegreaus, Lead Designer for the Back to Karkand map says “A few months ago we basically thought of how can we make a really cool experience for our core fans and the new fans. It felt kind of natural to revisit the epic maps of BF2.” They've obviously got something right, because from the couple screen-shots from Battlefield 2 side by side with Battlefield 3 there certainly is an old feeling of being somewhere, with a completely new feeling of realism and depth.
The only drawback for most gamers for Battlefield 3 will be increased computer specifications that the Frostbite 2 engine will demand. So, in the end, if you currently possess a computer capable of running Battlefield 3, or have the money and desire to upgrade, you will definitely want to pick up a copy of Battlefield 3. If you pre-order BF3 your game will come with these 4 classic maps from the “old days” of Battlefield 2, or you may also choose to purchase the DLC at a later time if you would rather not pre-order. Either way, Battle On team!
